You may have noticed that I've been on a movie binge lately. Today's post gets back to basics with photos of cholesteric phases. This is a sample with an intermediate pitch. What I find fascinating with these photos are the "tendril" domains that form from the isotropic phase; this contrasts with more circular droplets formed in achiral nematic phases. |
