I'll keep the text short today. I just wanted to share some textures from our research on columnar LC phases. To the right is the texture of an columnar oblique phase emerging as the sample is cooled from the isotropic phase.
As the sample continues to cool, multiple domains grow in. Notice the almost 90° angles of the dentric textures.
To the right is a different compound that has both a nematic and a columnar oblique phase. The image shows the oblique domains growing into the nematic texture upon cooling.
